FAQs

What makes Sapo Wellness different from other counseling or consultation practices?

1

We don't separate your physical biology from your mental performance. You get the ultimate trifecta of wellness—mindset, movement, and nutrition—under one specialist.

When you see a traditional therapist, a personal trainer, and a nutritionist separately, they operate in silos. Your trainer pushes physical exertion when your nervous system is already redlining. Your therapist gives you top-down coping strategies that ignore your physical fatigue. And your nutritionist gives you a meal plan that doesn't account for your stress capacity or neurodivergent needs. You end up acting as your own care coordinator, translating advice back and forth.

At Sapo Wellness, you get a dual-master’s practitioner holding both credentials - Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate) - who evaluates your complete health ecosystem.

Here is what that single-specialist advantage actually gets you:

  • Zero Translation Loss: Your physical programming, nutrition, and emotional skill work are built by the exact same practitioner, ensuring every variable supports the others.

  • Faster, Compounded Progress: By addressing top-down cognitive awareness alongside bottom-up nervous system regulation, you build stress tolerance faster than relying on talk therapy alone.

  • Less Administrative Friction: One intake, one communication link, and zero time wasted trying to get different providers on the same page.

  • Complete System Alignment: We adjust your physical load and nutrition in real time based on your actual mental capacity and stress levels that week—no rigid "grind through it" mentalities.

Whether you enter through a clinical or non-clinical route, an Experiential Intensive, or our comprehensive Integrated Performance Package (IPP) you get a unified strategy engineered for total mind-body execution.

What exactly is the Emotive Action Therapy™ (EAT) and Method™?

2

It’s a way to practice what you do with your emotions in real time, rather than just talking about them.

Most approaches work exclusively from the top down - analyzing stress on a couch. But when pressure hits, your body defaults to automatic survival reactions before your logical mind can intervene. The Emotive Action Therapy™ is the overarching umbrella; the Emotive Action Method™ is how we do it. EAT combines exercise science, physical exertion, tempo selection, yoga, and creative constraints to create safe, controlled scenarios where you encounter emotion, build tolerance to discomfort, and practice executing intentional choices under load. Emotional intelligence is a skill and it can be trained.

Do I have to be a competitive athlete or lifter to work with you?

3

Not at all.

We work with everyone from absolute beginners to seasoned barbell athletes, first responders, and executives. The common thread among our clients isn't their current back-squat PR, it’s their drive to build real stress capacity and stop reacting to life like an exposed nerve. Whether we are designing your very first workout plan or refining a contest prep mindset, everything is calibrated to your current physical and nervous system capacity.

How do I know if I need the Performance & Wellness Pathway or the Clinical Mental Health Pathway?

4

You don't have to guess - we help you determine this during your initial consultation.

  • Choose Performance & Wellness Consultation if you want to master emotional regulation, optimize strength and nutrition, refine communication, and build real-time resilience without needing clinical treatment for a diagnosed mental health condition. (Available globally)

  • Choose Clinical Mental Health Counseling if you are a Texas resident requiring deeper processing for clinical anxiety, depression, trauma, or complex emotional dysregulation integrated directly with your physical programming.

If your needs change over time, our Integrated Performance Package (IPP) allows a seamless transition between pathways without breaking your momentum or training structure.

Why do you emphasize Intensives over traditional 50-minute weekly sessions?

5

Because there is no single "right" way to process emotion, but 50 minutes can sometimes cut off momentum just as you hit meaningful breakthroughs.

The traditional Clinical Mental Health Counseling model - meeting for 50 minutes once a week - is a proven, highly effective framework. For many individuals, a gentler, more gradual, and long-term approach is exactly what is needed to build safety, establish trust, and incrementally expand emotional capacity over time. That is precisely why standard 50-minute sessions remain a core offering at Sapo Wellness.

However, for those ready for deep, active, and immediate skill acquisition, standard sessions can feel constraining - often requiring time to settle in and time to wrap up, leaving a very small window for hands-on work.

Experiential Intensives compress months of skill development and emotional processing into concentrated 2-, 3-, or 4+ hour blocks. This extended time frame gives us the space needed to utilize the Emotive Action Method™ (EAM), apply controlled physical load, work through real-time nervous system regulation, and achieve meaningful integration - all with significantly less total scheduling friction.

And they’re available for couples/dyads at no additional cost.

Whether you thrive in a steady, weekly cadence or a concentrated, immersive intensive, your care is tailored to how your nervous system actually processes load.

Can I get an ESA (Emotional Support Animal) authorization through Sapo Wellness?

6

Yes, for established clinical clients in Texas.

Per TBHEC ethical standards and federal housing regulations, ESA letters are not handed out like candy. To receive official documentation, you must be an established clinical client, which requires a minimum of two comprehensive clinical evaluation sessions to determine genuine clinical need. You can review the details on our Services page.

Do you take insurance?

7

No. Sapo Wellness is a 100% private-pay practice.

Operating outside the insurance system protects your medical privacy, prevents insurance companies from dictating the length or nature of your care, and allows us to offer fully integrated physical and mental performance models (like the IPP) that traditional insurance models simply do not cover. Superbills for out-of-network clinical counseling reimbursement can be provided upon request for eligible Texas residents.

How can I contact you?
